2:23 King Solomon then swore an oath by the Lord, “May God judge me severely, 1  if Adonijah does not pay for this request with his life! 2  2:24 Now, as certainly as the Lord lives (he who made me secure, allowed me to sit on my father David’s throne, and established a dynasty 3  for me as he promised), Adonijah will be executed today!” 2:25 King Solomon then sent 4  Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he killed Adonijah. 5

12:16 When all Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, the people answered the king, “We have no portion in David, no share in the son of Jesse! 6  Return to your homes, O Israel! 7  Now, look after your own dynasty, O David!” 8  So Israel returned to their homes. 9

[2:23]  1 tn Heb “So may God do to me, and so may he add.”

[2:23]  2 tn Heb “if with his life Adonijah has not spoken this word.”

[12:16]  6 sn We have no portion in David; no share in the son of Jesse. Their point seems to be that they have no familial relationship with David that brings them any benefits or places upon them any obligations. They are being treated like outsiders.

[12:16]  7 tn Heb “to your tents, Israel.” The word “return” is supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[12:16]  8 tn Heb “Now see your house, David.”

[12:16]  9 tn Heb “went to their tents.”
